Stargate
PG 13, 119 minutes long, science fiction.
"When a mysterious woman makes Professor Daniel Jackson (James Spader) an offer he can't refuse, he ends up in a secret Airforce military base. His mission: to decode an ancient Egyptian artifact known as the Stargate.
The mission leader, Colonel Jack O'Neil (Kurt Russell), a tough military man with nerves of steel, commandeers their trip through the Stargate to an ancient civilization on the other side of the known universe. But once there, they must battle the astoundingly powerful Sun God, Ra (Jaye Davidson), before they can find their way back home."
This is one of my favourite movies and I have rated it with a 10.
Titan AE
"A reluctant hero holds the key to the future of mankind ... It is the year 3028 and the Drej ... have destroyed Earth. Fifteen years later a young man named Cale (Matt Damon) learns he possesses a genetically encoded map to the Titan, a spaceship that holds the secret to the salvation of the human race."
This was written on the back of the DVD cover. DVD includes deleted scenes, directors' commentaries, original trailor, etc. Rated PG for violence and alcohol content.
My rating for it is a 8. It is well written, not terribly hard to follow, and the message is uplifting: good will always over come evil, but those on the side of good must make an effort to do so or fail entirely. It is rather dark for an animated feature, but it is about time they introduce a good animated sci-fi movie. What is also great it is by Don Bluth and not an import! Produced by 20th Century Fox.
Pluto Nash
A moon dweller is living the life of Riley as a club owner when he is offered an obscene amount of money for his club. The thing is, he doesn't wish to sell. This club is his dream and he can't bear to part with it. Soon, after many rejections, the person giving him his offers attacks Pluto Nash and his club. He goes on a wild adventure accross the moon scape to go after the person who is seeking his life. Stars Eddie Murphy, Randy Quaid, and Rosario Dawson.
The rating is PG 13 for sexuality, violence, and bad language. It also includes the controversial topic of cloning - with the controversy in the story line - and a scene where a robot gives the mafia "the finger".
Ok, I saw it on HBO with my Dad. It was more of a satire/farce of sci-fi, but it was amusing enough to keep my attention. I will rate it a 5, because it was amusing, but the over use of sexual humor, "the finger" and bad language.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Fellowship of the Ring:
Young Frodo is given an wealthy inheritance, but the true and tiny prize is the gorgeous golden ring. Soon, though, his uncle's best friend - Gandolf - comes and delivers to him some dire news. He must engage in a life threatening quest to destroy his precious ring or the entire of Middle Earth will be seized and layed to waste by Sauron, an evil demon sorceror. The epic tale only begins with this tale. PG 13 - violence.
Two Towers:
The Fellowship has been broken up and the war is raging at full tilt. Sauromon has betrayed the forest and his wizard circle. Gandolf makes his return and the trees attack. PG 13 - violence.
Return of the King:
Gollum shows his true colors. The one true king takes his place and raises up an army from the dead. Great earthquakes, lava, and brutal battles. PG 13 - violence.
10! I love this trillogy! I hope that they will make The Hobbit, the prequel to the trillogy. I also wouldn't object to a series based off of the other books having to do with the tales of Middle Earth.
